The Electoral Commission, responsible for UK voter registration, would like your help to make sure that any British national eligible to vote is able to do so.

Lots of UK nationals who live overseas don’t know they might be able to take part in the UK’s Referendum on EU membership on 23 June.

For British expats, if you want to vote by post then the deadline of 16 May is approaching fast. If you haven’t yet had time to register, then visit reg-to-vote.

To register to vote you must have been registered in the UK in the last 15 years, and all you need to know is your National Insurance number and passport. (You can still register if you don’t have a National Insurance number but you might have to supply more information to confirm your identity). And it only takes a few minutes.

Once you’ve registered, you can choose to vote by post, by proxy or in person. But a lesson learnt from previous polls is that the sooner you register to vote, the more time you have to arrange an absent vote.
