This month our new intern Oliver Wright was invited by James Mayock to embark on a trip up the coast from Santa Barbara to San Francisco.
He arrived on Friday evening for a trial run over the weekend out to Smugglers Bay, Santa Cruz Island.
10 am Monday morning they set off Northwards aiming to make it past notoriously choppy point conception at nightfall, along the way were some dolphins and whales.
This was a success with a turbulent night of 8ft waves and 25 Knot winds they sailed through the night dock in and refuel at Morro Bay at sunrise.
This brief pitstop was followed by another 24 hour leg up to Santa Cruz, which allowed for some recreational time fishing.
With a hearty breakfast inside of them they were ready to tackle the final stage of the trip
And by 10:30 Pm they were sailing under the golden gate bridge with Berkeley bay in sight.
Comments from Olly “I’m very thankful to James for taking me and the BABC for providing the opportunity”
