Global Technology and Innovation Collaboration in Silicon Valley

We are pleased to enclose a new report from the Bay Area Council Economic Institute: Innovation Platform: The Future of Global Innovation and Technology Collaboration in the San Francisco/Silicon Valley Bay Area. The region is home to a vast array of internationally headquartered entities – consulates, universities and science organizations, corporate innovation offices and research centers, venture funds, sovereign wealth funds, and accelerators – that connect the Bay Area’s economy with the world and contribute to innovation-led growth globally.

Like other organizations, many physically closed during the pandemic, shifted their activity online, and are only now reopening. This new report examines how they fared during the pandemic, their activity today, and their plans for the future. The core questions it examines are whether these global entities remain committed to the region and how their strategies to support innovation-led growth are evolving. The findings are encouraging: that the vast majority remain open and active, and that many are increasing their presence and investment in the region as the digitalization of industry accelerates and as governments increasingly focus their attention on digital policy.
