In 2001, Paul joined Howarth & Smith, a Los Angeles-based litigation boutique. At Howarth & Smith, Paul specialized in high-profile, high-stakes trials and appeals for plaintiffs and defendants throughout the U.S. Howarth & Smith remains the only U.S. firm ever to have won both the “Top 10” plaintiff and defense verdicts in the same year (as recognized by the National Law Journal).

In 2007, Paul joined the San Francisco office of Latham & Watkins LLP, one of the world’s premier international law firms. In his five years at Latham, Paul worked on some of the country’s highest profile litigation matters, including several “bet the company” cases. His representative clients included Fortune 100 companies, Silicon Valley start-ups, and individuals. Paul is also committed to pro bono matters. Among other things, he has represented the victim of a violent sexual assault who brought a civil action against her attacker; a mentally disabled child who was injured while riding on a school bus; an individual whose home was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina in a breach of oral contract and fraud action; and an individual and his children who faced political persecution in El Salvador.

For three consecutive years, Paul was named one of the “Rising Stars” of California law by Super Lawyers magazine.

In addition to practicing at Lewis & Llewellyn, Paul serves as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. He also remains a “door tenant” at his former barristers’ chambers in London, and remains qualified to practice law in England and Wales, as well as California.
