San Francisco, CA – November 14th, 2016
San Francisco Zoo’s very own polar bear, “Uulu”, received a very special delivery to her habitat on Friday, November 11 – ten tons of snow! At 35 years young, “Uulu” is the oldest polar bear in North America, a testament to the excellent care she receives at SF Zoo. Providing the option to roll and relax in the snow is an opportunity to enrich the polar bear within her habitat.
ABODA, a leader in providing global housing solutions for some of the world’s best-known brands, generously sponsored the snow to enhance “Uulu’s” space. ABODA opened a regional office serving the Greater Bay Area in April 2016 and has been delivering its innovative corporate housing solutions and award-winning customer service ever since.
“At ABODA, it’s our mission to connect people on the move with services tailored to make them feel at home,” said Lee Curtis, CCHP, President of ABODA Global Housing Management. “Delivering a snow day to Uulu is our way of extending the early comforts of winter to her as well as doing a great thing for our local community in the Bay Area.”
“Uulu” has lived at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens since 1985. The Zoo gave her a permanent home after she was caught foraging in a dump and attempting to get into residential homes in Churchill, Canada.
Many of the Zoo’s animals have been rescued from poor circumstances, including the sea lions, grizzly bears, hippo and bald eagles.
“Our expert animal, medical and wellness teams have spent a lot of time collaborating to keep ‘Uulu’ in the best health possible for her advanced age,” said Steven Haines, VP of Marketing and Strategic Growth at San Francisco Zoo & Gardens. “This event is a great way to connect with ‘Uulu’ and learn more about the animals the Zoo has rescued over the years.”
The last time “Uulu” received snow was on International Polar Bear Day, February 27, 2016, and the snow stuck around for three days. Friday, November 11 is also Veteran’s Day, and active and retired military are invited to enjoy complimentary admission to the Zoo.
