Clashes For The Ashes – August 23rd, 2014

It was a glorious summer day with picture perfect weather as the BABC and AACC celebrated the 30
th Annual Clashes for the Ashes Cricket Tournament. More than 150 adults and kids joined us for a relaxing sunny day on the lawn at Piper Park.Meanwhile, on the pitch, the English and Australian Cricket teams provided yet another lively match that once again didn’t disappointment the crowd. It was an action-packed battle, lasting through 5pm, and as seems to be the case quite regularly, it all came down to the last ball!We are pleased to report that the English ultimately regained the Opal Cup from the Australians after a tremendous effort from both sides. No doubt this will provide the Aussies with just enough incentive to ping the Trophy back to the Aussie Team next year!

We’d like to thank everyone who turned out to not only support the BABC/AACC at our annual gathering but also who gave so generously to the raffle. Additionally, thanks to the British Benevolent Society for donating $2,000 to the Post-Operative Care Fund for England’s Captain of many years, Michael Banks.Michael has been a very staunch supporter and player in Clashes for the Ashes for many years andhe was sorely missed at the event. We are pleased to report Michael is on the road to recovery.

Special thanks also go out to our Vice British Consul General Philip Huff and Cathy Fredericksen from the Australian Consulates for joining us and to all our generous event and raffle prize sponsors.
