British-American Business Council – August 2019 Policy Update

Welcome to BAB’s Policy Update for August 2019. We hope you’ve all been enjoying the summer break, and looking forward to some of the exciting events we’ve got coming up – check out the ‘Upcoming’ section at the bottom of this email for a peek, or check out our Events page online.

We kicked off August by meeting the new Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss MP, alongside members in New York to discuss how to advance transatlantic relations in the coming months and years. In London, BAB enjoyed hosting another set of American students studying abroad in Britain, where we got to discuss Brexit and how its impacting transatlantic businesses investing in the UK. We also headed to North London to visit members UPS at their hub in Kentish Town, alongside colleagues at the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy to learn more about how a global business such as theirs operates, and how they’re investing more in the UK market.

BAB also released two statements in August in response to US National Security Adviser, John Bolton’s Visit to the UK, and proposed changes to the UK’s immigration system to attract more high-skilled workers. In addition, we were delighted to discuss the prospects of Brexit and UK-US trade with a number of media outlets – more info below.
