BritishAmerican Business Submission to the Business and Trade Committee Inquiry on UK trade with the US, India and EU

Over the summer, the House of Commons Business and Trade Committee launched an inquiry into the UK’s trade relationships with three of its most significant partners: the United States, India, and the European Union. The inquiry aimed to assess the detail and implementation of three recent developments – the US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal (EPD), the UK-India Free Trade Agreement, and outcomes from the UK-EU Summit – and to understand their potential impact on UK businesses, consumers, and the broader economy.

BritishAmerican Business (BAB) submitted written evidence to the inquiry, focusing on the UK-US EPD. BAB’s submission highlighted the strategic importance of the transatlantic economic corridor and assessed the EPD as a cautiously positive step toward deeper integration. Our response underscored key sectoral wins, including tariff reductions for aerospace and automotive exports, and the potential for preferential treatment in future US Section 232 actions. However, BAB also noted that UK exporters remain worse off than prior to recent US tariff changes, and called for further negotiations to secure broader market access and lasting certainty for UK businesses.

The Committee’s final report, published on Sunday, references BAB’s submission multiple times, recognising its industry insight and policy recommendations. BAB continues to urge both governments to build on the EPD’s momentum to deliver tangible benefits for transatlantic businesses. You can see our full submission here.
