San Francisco and Edinburgh based corporate communications production company 20/20 Productions is celebrating 10 years in the US in August 2012. The company produces live events, corporate video and design projects with a diverse range of clients across the US and further afield.
CEO Andy MacKay, who set up and runs the US corporation, describes how the company has developed over the years:
“We expanded globally back in 2002 – the US location was chosen as it’s beyond immediate practical reach of our UK company in Scotland, which produces projects throughout Europe and in the Middle East.
“Our presence here gives us a foothold in the US and beyond, and the opportunity to prove ourselves to a wider audience. San Francisco is a hotbed of event and media activity, and it’s been an interesting journey so far. Clients like our creative and common sense solutions to their communications projects.”
Andy’s business partner Alastair Scott, who runs the UK operation in Edinburgh says “We’re proud that the US operation has been such a success and the management team have created a winning formula that has provided a decade of quality design and production projects.”
The UK company, 20/20 Productions Europe Ltd, is celebrating 22 years in business later this year, proving that the company is providing the right solutions to clients time and again.
“We may have been slightly unorthodox – landing in the US without any clients during the depths of US recession, and following the dot-com bubble implosion, but our idea was to get in at grass-roots level while the markets were down, do some hard work and build up the business gradually.” says MacKay. “So far, in 10 years, it’s paid off for us.”
“It’s not all been plain sailing though….the company has come up against some challenges, including the tight reins of the US Immigration service, and how they relate to incoming small businesses. It is a constant reminder of one’s temporary status in the US.”
“Being in the US gives you an interesting perspective on business and cultural differences, and we’re able to use this from both sides, bringing some of our successful UK methods and approaches to our US audience, and passing back some US practices to benefit our UK business. In particular it’s refreshing the way business networking and referrals are encouraged and are successful, from my experience here in California.”
20/20 Productions Inc CEO Andy MacKay is on the Board of Directors of the BABC Northern California, a Board Member of Protocol Professionals, and is a member of GlobalScot, the Scottish Government’s international business development network.
