Industry veteran Peter M. Koehler brings over thirty years of hospitality experience to the InterContinental San Francisco. His tenure includes management positions at ten different four and five-star, world class properties in four continents.
Koehler’s keen interest in the hospitality industry first brought him to the Hotel and Restaurant School in Bremen, Germany. Upon receiving his degree, Peter first began his management career as Assistant Restaurant Manager with Trust Houses Forte in South Africa before moving on to assume the position of Assistant Food and Beverage Director for the Carlyle Hotel in New York, and later the Director of Food and Beverage at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC.
With over 17 years of experience as a General Manager, Peter has served in many of the world's top hotels, including the Hotel Villa Del Sol, in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and Morgans Hotel in New York City. During his tenure at Morgans, the hotel was awarded a prestigious number one ranking in Lodging Hospitality’s list of 400 Top Performing City Hotels. His other accomplishments include assisting in the opening of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in New York City, serving as the opening GM at the Omni Hotel at Independence Park in Philadelphia, and the Mandarin Oriental Mexico City, now the JW Marriott. Peter also consulted for Victoria International, a company specializing in pre-opening training, strategic planning and human resource development.
A Bay Area veteran, Koehler served as General Manager for Campton Place Hotel in San Francisco from 1991 to 1994, and was most recently the General Manager at the Kimpton Hotel Group’s Hotel Palomar, San Francisco from 2003 until 2007. Under his direction, the Hotel Palomar was awarded the prestigious AAA Four Diamond distinction, as well as Conde Nast Traveler's Gold List of the World's Best Places to Stay in 2006.
In his role as General Manager for the InterContinental San Francisco, opened February 28, 2008, Peter assumes overall responsibility for ensuring superior customer satisfaction in addition to guiding the property’s mission of being the most technology-friendly hotel in the city. “InterContinental San Francisco is all about the future,” explains Koehler, adding “through our advanced technologies, luxurious amenities, and unprecedented level of service we give guests an unparalleled experience.”
In August 2009, Peter Koehler was appointed as Regional Director of Operations for San Francisco, also overseeing operations for the InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco.
A native of Germany, Koehler lives in San Francisco and is fluent in German, French, Spanish and English.
